Although many changes in schooling have taken place in recent years, memory for academic content remains an extremely important part of the school learning experience. Students with learning disabilities and other special needs may be at particular risk for failure in this important arena of school functioning. Systematic instruction using mnemonic strategies for important information to remember, as well as systematic instruction in independent use of mnemonic strategies, can be important factors in determining school success for students with learning and memory problems.
